Poetry Under the Paintings Sampler #2, Poets, Music and Fun

The rules are simple. And as the pirates say, they are not really rules, “More like guidelines, actually.”

1. Bring a chair. Or do as a few of the teens do and bring a throw rug or pillow, sixties style.
2. Bring at least one poem, but it’s good to bring three.
3. Bring your sense of humor, or at least your sense of adventure.
4. When there is silence, jump up and move toward the microphone.

My Partner: Brian, the Pianist (BPK)

We often have the joy of Grammy award-winner Steve Mitchell with a bongo kind of rhythm behind the poetry readings. But when Steve cannot be there we often have some great musicians willing to jump in, including recently, Dave Miller of the Dave Miller Band, and for the October gathering, my sweet talented partner, Brian, or BPK, or wbarreguy, as they call him here on YouTube.

We meet at Faustina’s art gallery in beautiful Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Starting in November the events will be on the second Thursday of each month, so if you are nearby, I hope you’ll come join in the fun.

You might have recognized Kate Bush’s “Cloud Busting,” Madona’s “Like a Prayer,” and very briefly, because I fear I cut too much off in the editing, before Tom took to the mic, the theme from “Chariots of Fire.”

And since poor Ross didn’t actually get to read in that sampler, here he is reading a poem I quite enjoyed:

    • Yes! Isn’t it delightful? It’s especially so when you realize that one son plays guitar, and another writes stories, and poetry. That leaves one reasonable person, my oldest son, the math major and future teacher, to try to keep all of our feet on the ground. I think he’s given up on us. :)
